Why eIDAS?

Imagine you are traveling through Europe with your passport. And in every country you are required to have a different passport.  That would be a bit strange, right?

So why is this the case with your digital identity?

Using your own digital identity anywhere would make things so much easier. Connectis makes this possible with eIDAS. So connect your country or company and make it easier for your citizens, businesses and clients to do business in Europe.

What is cross-border electronic identification?

Electronic identification (eID) allows you, as a citizen and company, to securely prove your identity online. On a national scale, eIDs are widely-adopted in Europe. Connectis opens up the cross-border digital market by building the biggest cross-border electronic identification project in the world.

By the end of 2016, the public services of almost 100 municipalities in the Netherlands can be accessed with the nationally issued eIDs of up to 32 European countries. Connectis prepares Europe for the end of 2018, the year in which member states of the European Union are required under the eIDAS regulation 910/2014 to recognize the eIDs of other member states.

Whether you are a European citizen, business or government administration, Connectis gives you access to a world of digital opportunities.

What does the future hold?

Connectis creates the tools, knowledge and infrastructure to enable cross-border use of eIDs in Europe to expand to other services beyond those offered by the participating of almost 100 Dutch municipalities.

The public sector is the first to move. By the end of 2018 all public services in the European Union are obliged to accept the eIDs of other member states under the eIDAS regulation 910/2014.

Expansion to the private sector is the next step. Within years, online services offered by organizations such as universities, financial services and healthcare providers can be accessed using eID. The opportunities are endless.
